Autodesk Netfabb 2017 - December release

New Engines, Partners, Workspaces

  • Two new workspaces have been added for collaborative multi-head 3D printing, based on Project Escher, available at all subscription tiers. For more information on Project Escher, visit http://www.projectescher.com.
  • Three new workspaces have been added for Renishaw machines AM 250, AM 400, and RenAM 500M (tiers Premium and up)
  • A new workspace has been added for the Sisma myrev series (tiers Standard and up)
  • A generic FDM printer workspace has been added, available at all subscription tiers.
  • Platform configurations are now listed with their platform size.

Packing

  • Names of 2D and 3D packers have been changed slightly to be more consistent. Their arrangement in toolbar and context menus has also been tidied up.

Live Collision Detector

  • Collisions found are now reported in a Warning dialog. It used to be an Error dialog.

Enhanced Support Module

  • Set Cut for selection has been renamed to Set clip plane for selection to reflect more clearly what it does.
  • A new Support action has been added, Cluster-contour with polyline.
  • Working with Polygon cutting has received some improvements.
  • Volume Support has been improved.
  • A new context menu item has been added to down-facing edges, allowing quick, selective creation of support structures.
  • A menu entry has been added under Extras to allow running Support scripts without having to launch the Enhanced Support Module.
  • General script improvements, including better handling of delicate areas in need of additional support.

Repair

  • Two new Repair actions have been added: Remove Problem Areas, which fixes areas with high density of triangles, and Sanitize Duplicate Nodes, which addresses instances of touching but individual shells having nodes in common.

Slice Commander

  • Finding thin walls for providing extra support by generating additional laser passes is now improved.

Settings

  • A new option has been added to disable the subscription reminder once the Trial period has expired and to launch Autodesk Netfabb in non-subscription mode.

PowerShape

  • A new Utility has been added, Autodesk® PowerShape Utility for Netfabb®, available in subscription tiers Premium and Ultimate.
  • After successful additive manufacturing, subtractive manufacturing processes are often necessary to improve the surface finish and accuracy of part features. Netfabb helps manufacturers prepare parts for both additive and subsequent subtractive manufacturing processes.
  • With this utility, Netfabb takes advantage of Autodesk® PowerShape® technology to design and plan near-net shapes for additive and subtractive manufacturing. Near-net-shapes can then be exported directly from Netfabb to Autodesk PowerMill® where you can create CNC programs on the features and surfaces.

Autodesk Netfabb 2017 - September release
  • Netfabb Workspaces: Machine Workspaces have been updated to support more machines and also different process like SLS, FDM and DLP/SLA.
  • Mesh Repair:
    • It is now possible to only remesh selected areas in mesh repair.
    •  A soft offset can now be created, where the area around the selected location slopes according to the set values.
    • A new brush tool can be used to paint over triangles in order to select them.
    • Shell selection has been improved.
    • Single Edges can be removed from the mesh now.
    • A free triangle can be added from an open edge now, by clicking and dragging it up into free space.
    • Nodes can now be moved, by entering the exact x,y and z coordinates.
    • New function to automatically detect problematic areas with a large number of self-intersections. By removing those the Wrap part surface functions increases in speed drastically.
  • Mesh Manipulation: The mesh quality is checked to ensure triangles are suitable for FEA.
  • New Measurement Snapin (Beta Version): The new Snapin allows to measure the distances between multiple parts, directly from the default module.
  • User Interface:
    • Elements can now undock into a different window, for multiple screen use. Change and size of elements is also customizable.
    • New graphic option "Antialiasing" can be turned on in the settings for a better display quality.
  • Support Minimizer: The orientation of the part is changed automatically, minimize the areas in need of supports.

  • When you close netfabb and you have made changes since last saving the project, you will be asked if you want to save those changes before you close netfabb
  • You can center the view at any point on a part in the screen. Right-click on the point you want move to the center of the screen to and choose "Center view here" in the context menu.
  • Parts which consist of more than one shell are marked in the project tree. There is a little box at the top right of the color dot
  • At the bottom of the tabsheet in the default module, there is information on how many parts you have selected, how many parts you have in your project in total and how many parts you have hidden
  • The Simple Cutting has been reworked. When you click "Execute Cut" you are directly linked to the Free Cut.
  • In the context menu after you right-click on a part in the project tree, you can Create a group with selected parts.

Professional

  • Advanced part selection: You can select parts by their size, volume, part quality (e.g. all damaged parts) or number of triangles.
  • Advanced part import: Before importing parts, you can duplicate them, stitch them, scale them or change the level of detail. Additionally you can arrange your parts side by side in the platform.
  • Improved part export: A new export dialog for saving 3D parts offers new options. You can save many parts at once, either in one file or in separate files. With a loading list, you can save an XML file with which all parts you saved can be opened at once.
  • Polylgon cut: In the Free Cut module, you can draw a polygon line on the screen which is projected through the part. Everything within the polyon is then cut out.
  • There is a new icon for the Free Cut module
  • Selection rectangle in repair: There is a new selection mode in the repair module with which you can drag a rectangle to select all triangles within that frame.
  • As additional option for the feature Create Shell, you can create a hollow part. The inner hollowing shell is automatically merged with the original part.
  • The automatic placement by outbox has been renamed to Arrange Parts
  • Arrange parts 2D: When you "Arrange parts" you have an option to arrange parts two-dimensionally on the bottom plane of the platform.

General

  • Hide and show groups: With the options "Hide Group" and "Show Group", you can hide all parts of a group at once. You can choose that option in the context menu, after you right-click on the group, or by clicking on the eye next to the group in the project tree.
  • Stereographic View: With the option "Stereographic View" in the View menu, you can see your parts with a 3D effect. You can have your parts rotate automatically to get a motional effect. You need 3D glasses to see the effect (with a blue and a red foil) and you can choose from a number of color schemes in the software to get the right setting for your glasses.
  • In the measuring tool, when you hold the left mouse button to set the last anchor of a measuring, you can see a preview of the measured value as you move the mouse over the part surface.
  • Redesigned slice export: The export of slice files has been completely redesigned, as you can edit various settings, depending on file type, in a new kind of dialog window and you can choose the file type in that dialog window.
